Where the work happens

Three standing committees. One mission.

Each standing committee leads its own kind of work across the faculty, and is part of IFMSA's standing committee of the same name. Here's what they do.

ISUMS LC's outward face in the community - awareness campaigns, free screenings, and education drives that bring practical health knowledge to students and the public.

  • Awareness campaigns - built around a condition or risk factor, from diabetes to heart health.
  • Free screenings - blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI, and similar quick checks.
  • Community & campus education - sessions that teach people how to look after themselves.
  • Drives - blood donation, vaccination awareness, and first-aid basics.

In IFMSA, SCOPH brings together medical students from around the world to work on health promotion, disease prevention, and health policy, with programmes on mental health, non-communicable diseases, and climate and health.

Making the study of medicine less painful and more effective - workshops, peer tutoring, and skills sessions that help students actually learn, and pass.

  • Study-skills & exam prep - how to study smart, manage time, and walk into exams ready.
  • Peer tutoring & revision - students helping students through tough modules.
  • Clinical & practical skills - hands-on sessions and OSCE-style practice.
  • Tools & methods - note-taking, spaced repetition, and question banks that work.

In IFMSA, SCOME has been a standing committee since the federation was founded in 1951. It works so that medical students have a real voice in their own education, through trainings, advocacy, and student-led activities.

Standing Committee on Research Exchange

SCORE

Building the skills students need to actually do research - from reading a paper to running a project to writing it up. It demystifies a process medical school rarely teaches well.

  • Methodology training - study designs, and how to read research critically.
  • Academic writing - abstracts, case reports, and papers, from draft to submission.
  • Literature reviews - how to search the evidence and make sense of it.
  • Practical tools - statistics basics and reference managers that save hours.

In IFMSA, SCORE was founded in 1991 and runs research exchanges: placements where medical students join a research project at a university abroad and learn the principles of research. IFMSA's International Research Camp was held in Amman in 2023.
